TestMasters Helps Boys and Girls Country
Whenever possible, the team at TestMasters likes to work in partnership with local schools and organizations that are in need of test preparation services for students that come from low-income backgrounds. TestMasters recently donated two scholarships to students that attend Boys and Girls Country, a charitable home in northwest Houston that has provided residence and educational care to hundreds of children from underprivileged homes.
Boys and Girls Country does not receive government grants and is not a United Way member agency and therefore looks to organizations like TestMasters for community support to continue to make their programs successful. Most of the children at Boys and Girls Country will be the first in their families to graduate from high school, and one of the goals of this program is to get students prepared in the hopes that they will attend college. Two students, Alexandra and Piero, had the benefit of receiving these TestMasters scholarships and were both able to enroll in the TestMasters SAT & PSAT Preparation Course. As a result of their hard work during the TestMasters course, they both raised their scores over 350 points.
Alexandra, an 8th grader, nearly qualified for participation in an accelerated learning program at a college campus, through the Duke Talent Identification Program. She continues to practice her skills and strategies so that she can earn the scores she needs on the next SAT to qualify her for the Duke program next year. "The course was very fun, and very entertaining. I have never had so much fun learning. I went from being scared to write the essay to not being sure if I had written small enough to fit in everything I wanted to say," said Alexandra. "Im definitely going back this summer to continue working on my skills."
Piero's scores may qualify him for admission into an honors program at a four-year university after he graduates from high school next year. His score was increased by 366 points. "The course helped me the most with the reading section," remarked Piero. "I liked that the teachers really know how to teach and they're energetic and entertaining. Every bit of work that you put in to the course is completely worth it."
Dr. Robin Latimer, Director of Education at the Home agrees with the programs effectiveness. "I love a logical, sequential approach to test preparation, and that's what Test Masters offers. Our students were also truly engaged in their classes. We are really enthusiastic about this course. The results that Test Masters promises are the results they deliver."
The results extend beyond the SAT alone. Alexandra just learned that she earned a perfect score on the reading section of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). "Whenever students are studying for one test, they are studying for all of the others," said Dr. Latimer. "The Test Masters course is really valuable in instilling confidence in students for a variety of the challenges they face."
The Test Masters course has opened doors for Alexandra and Piero, and the students and the staff were grateful for the opportunity. "With the high demand for Test Masters expertise, I am grateful that they opened their hearts and classroom space for two of our most deserving students," said Shirley Wright, Executive Director. "The triple digit success by Piero and Alex raised the hopes of all students at Boys and Girls Country!"

I saw an improvement in my ability to answer LSAT questions immediately. From the first day of class I began to understand how to use, apply, and amplify settings.
