The FE-CBT stands for Fundamentals of Engineering – Computer Based Test. It is typically the first step in the process leading to the Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. The test is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree.
The FE-CBT Other Disciplines exam consists of 110 multiple-choice questions over a 6 hour testing period. This time period includes a tutorial and an optional scheduled break.
The FE-CBT Other Disciplines exam is a closed book exam that only allows the use of a provided electronic reference from the NCEES site.
It is administered year-round in testing windows at NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test centers. The FE-CBT is given Monday-Friday throughout the year in the following months: January-February, April-May, July-August, and October-November. No FE exam is administrated during March, June, September, or December.
The required score to pass this exam is not a set number used yearly. Typically, scoring an estimated 50% of the exam correctly will result in a curved passing score (70%). However, exact percentiles will vary from year to year. The NCEES determines the adjusted passing percentage required by using statistical analysis on the scores of all exam takers at a given testing time. This is why you do not immediately receive your test results upon completion of the exam.
According to the January/February and April/May 2015 FE-CBT Other Disciplines exam results, 81% of 1439 test takers passed. The aforementioned examinees took the exam for the first time, after having attended EAC/ABET-accredited engineering programs, within 12 months of graduation.
FE-CBT Other Disciplines exam results are typically available 7–10 days after you take the exam. You will receive an email notification from NCEES with instructions to view your results in your MyNCEES account. Results include information on how you should pursue your desired career path based on your performance and your licensing board.
The FE-CBT Other Disciplines exam utilizes both the International System of Units (SI) and the US Customary System (USCS).

The amount of hours varies from person to person but generally around 200 hours are spent studying for this exam.
Most of our students come to the course with little to no preparation. However, if you have been out of school for many years, we would recommend some preparation as it allows you to get the most out of the course. Knowing the fundamentals while in the Testmasters course will help you grasp the information more quickly and focus on learning the material taught in the course. You can pick up any engineering book to begin reviewing the topics covered on the exam before the first class.
Taking the FE-CBT offers a plethora of benefits including (but not limited to):
An exam fee of $225 is payable directly to NCEES during the registration process. Some licensing boards may require examinees to file a separate application and pay an application fee as part of their approval process in order to be qualified for seating for an NCEES exam. You will be notified during the registration process if the licensing board you selected has additional requirements.
You can find your nearest test center on this page from the NCEES website.
The exam consists of a variety of subjects, a majority of which you have learned or been introduced to through your engineering courses. Some of the most heavily tested subjects pertain to heat/mass/energy transfer, statics, fluids, and a variety of mathematical topics. The exact question breakdown for this exam can be found here.
Testmasters’s instructors come from the industry and academia, and are highly qualified in their specialized fields. They have taught FE-CBT/PE courses for many years at various companies including Central and Southwest Services, Bechtel, Kellogg, Fluor, Sirrine, Lummus, Ericsson, Texas Instruments, Foster Wheeler Energy Corp., Texas Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Transportation, Utility Engineering, and the City of Austin Electric Utility Department.

Combined hybrid and online courses consist of the full online course in addition to the live classes provided by the hybrid course. These online modules are available for 120 days upon purchase.
All classes in a Testmasters course should be attended for your benefit, as attending all classes will increase your chances of passing. However, we understand that sometimes unavoidable circumstances occur and you are unable to attend. For that reason, we allow you to miss up to one session per Testmasters FE-CBT course, and the guarantee will still apply.
If live classes or videos are available for the missed classes, make up will be allowed at no charge for up to six hours or one day of missed classes. After six hours or one day, the make up can be done for $20/hour or $95/day of the missed class if live classes or videos are available.
Because we have many students attending the Testmasters FE-CBT Test Prep Course from out of town, we usually conduct our classes in meeting rooms at hotels.
