What is the difference between AP Physics 2 and AP Physics C?
AP Physics 2 is a great way to earn advanced placement science credit in high school and earn basic science credit in college. AP Physics C is best for students who are planning on pursuing the physical sciences or engineering in college. Students are encouraged to try taking AP Physics C along with AP Calculus, as many colleges require calculus as a prerequisite for Physics courses. You may be delayed or denied taking next level Physics courses if you don't have your college calculus credit.
Which AP Physics exam should I take?
There are four total AP Physics exams:
- AP Physics 1: Algebra-based
- AP Physics 2: Algebra-based
- AP Physics C: Mechanics
- AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism
Students enrolled in AP Physics 1 should take the AP Physics 1 exam. Students enrolled in AP Physics 2 should take the AP Physics 2 exam. Students enrolled in AP Physics C can choose one or both of the AP Physics C exams.
The AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 exams are both 3 hours long. The AP Physics C exams are each an hour and a half; 3 hours for both.
